Solar in Australia

Australia has one of the highest residential solar adoption rates globally, driven by the Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme, generous state rebates, and abundant solar resource.
STC (Small-scale Technology Certificates)
Under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), eligible systems ≤100 kW receive STCs based on system size, location (zones 1-4), and deeming period. The deeming period steps down annually until scheme ends 2030.

State-level rebates
- VIC Solar Homes: rebate + interest-free loan for eligible households
- NSW Empowering Homes: interest-free loans for solar + battery
- QLD: battery rebate ($3,000)
- SA: Home Battery Scheme
- ACT: Sustainable Household Scheme
Feed-in tariffs
Mandatory minimum feed-in tariffs vary by state and retailer (typically 4-12 ¢/kWh). Best deals require shopping retailers — energymadeeasy.gov.au provides comparisons.
